It breaks my heart to have to announce that I will no longer be booking sessions. I started this business out of my love of photography and over the last year many events have transpired to take that love away. I have many wonderful customers that I am happy to call my friends, but it is not enough to balance out the negative behavior of a few. My family is the most important thing in my life and when this business began affecting them negatively I knew it was time for a change. Thank you for your support and business over the last couple years. Courtney I will be accepting print orders through May. I will also be having a Going out of Business sale starting next Monday. I repeatedly get asked 'what programs I use to edit my images', 'why it takes 10 days to edit a session of images' and 'why I might charge the prices I do for images', so I thought now would be a good time to explain the process each and every image takes before it is fully edited. After a session I upload all RAW images to my hard drive and burn a backup disc. After this all RAW images are then brought into Lightroom (one of the best 'new' programs available, in my opinion) where they are viewed and narrowed down. Next I make minor adjustments with color balance, adjust brightness, contrast, and make any exposure adjustments. All images are then saved as a JPEG and brought into Photoshop, this is where the magic happens, where a ho-hum image can be turned into a work of art. I spend 2-15 minutes per image making any adjustments, removing stray hairs or blemishes, or creatively adjusting the lighting and color. This is also the program used to create the one of a kind digital pieces, these images can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more. I then save these images and burn yet another back-up disc of edited JPEGs. I then have to resize all images and place them into the private galleries. From start to finish (upload from camera to upload into online gallery) I may spend anywhere from 1 1/2 to 5 hours editing a full session and 2-3 times that spent working on a wedding. As much as I love being behind the camera and working with each and everyone of you, most of my time is spent in front of the computer (usually listening to some great tunes, sippin' on a diet cherry coke, and enjoying editing the images of your beautiful faces).

Every summer while my sister-in-law, nieces, and nephew are back we try to squeeze in a session. In the years past these sessions have not always gone as planned, and this year was no exception. When we showed up to the location we had previously decided to use we found freshly cut grass where once stood gorgeous tall grass!! So a quick trip to a new location was in order, but the heavy storm clouds and impending rain it seemed the session may be cut short. I rushed to get a shot of all three of them, which has not been the easiest at past sessions, and to my surprise I was able to get those out of the way quickly. Next up was individuals...

as you can see we were able to get some great shots and the rain held off until later that night!!

I'm sure gonna miss these three when they head back to California next week!!

Computer Issues and too busy to blog

As always summer has kept me very busy, between shuttling my kids to and from all their summer activities and the studio, it has kept me hoppin!! I have also had my office computer in and out of the computer shop all summer, thanks to the awesome hacking job done to my website earlier this year!! All of this meant that I have been a real slacker when it comes to posting sneakpeeks on the blog. So please excuse the very long post today!!

Adorable Tyler came in for his two year portraits and as always I had a blast working with him and his mom. He is such a great little guy, so well behaved and all boy!!

Sweet Ben's mom and I went to high school together so I was excited to see her and Ben for his session. Ben had a rough start in life, having to go through a surgery during his first days and a NICU stay. He is a real fighter and a sweetheart too!!

Sam came in for the first of many sessions this year. I will have the privilege of photographing her throughout her Senior year!

Adorable Loralai was a perfect model during her newborn session.

I look forward to this gorgeous couple's wedding later in the year!!

Sweet Sutton was not interested in smiling for the camera when he came in, those darn teeth just weren't making him very happy. Even without smiles he is pretty darn cute!!

My friend and fellow photographer Kimberly came in to play and help pose sweet Baby Braydon. We couldn't have asked for a better model.

I want to apologize to all of my customers for the delay in posting their sneak peeks the last few weeks. This time last year I hurt my back and went through months of doctor visits, physical therapy, and chiropractor appointments. I thought that problem had went away, but unfortunately I have been having some of the same back issues as I did last year. I am trying to keep up with my sessions, but with sitting at the computer being one of the most painful activities I have been forced to slow down my processing time. I am fortunate that my customers are so sweet and understanding at this time and I am trying to keep up with all the computer work. My blog has been one of the things that I had to put on the back burner while trying to keep up with orders and editing sessions. I did Mr. K's big brother's newborn and 1 year sessions and it is a wonderful feeling when those families bring in their newest little bundle for me to photograph. During his first session he really wasn't sure if he wanted to sleep so they came back in for a second session. Although he still wanted to stay awake and check things out I was able to convince him to sleep even if it was for a short while.

Sweet Little Isabelle came in when she was 2 weeks old and did a fantastic job. I had a blast shooting Rachel's senior portraits! We had a great time traveling downtown Beatrice for some "urban" shots and then heading out for a few "country" shots. Just wish she would have brought some brighter clothing choices!! LOL!! I loved her selection of outfits and accessories, from her bright pink nails to her cool pink converses, she wasn't kidding when she told me she liked bold colors!

Every photographer (and most parents) know how difficult it is to photograph your own kids, which is why I dread doing the yearly photo sessions with my children. I put off doing Sawyer's 4 year pictures for a couple weeks, but with the beautiful weather we had yesterday I couldn't resist. He did very good, one small melt down and it only cost me a couple of hot wheels!

As a parent I know just how quickly the first year flies by, but it always seems like the year passes by too quickly when I look back at the sessions from the past year with the babies in my First Year Baby Plan. I enjoy seeing these sweet babies grow from the sweet sleepy newborn to the chubby smiley 6 month into the running and giggling toddler.

Miss J was a doll at her newborn session and has grown into such an adorable little girl!

Caelan~2010 Senior

What I am loving about this years Seniors is how they are planning their sessions at locations with meaning to them. So far I have traveled to family farms, ponds, small towns, and a rock quarry. Caelan was no exception, he really put some thought into the locations, and his session was awesome because of it!

Miss M gets the prize for the fastest baby, and she's not even 1 yet!! She has the most beautiful blue eyes and adorable grin, just wish my "trigger" finger was faster so that I could have captured a few more for her mom and dad. I am looking forward to having my second chance when we meet up again for our outdoor session!

Gerber Baby

This little guy reminded me of the Gerber Baby, with his cute little grin and that adorable red curl! He was a great little model and we breezed through his session in no time!

Eric~2010 Senior

Eric was a hard one to crack, he really didn't want to smile for me and was super quiet. In the end when he told me our session was better than being at work I took that as a compliment! All kidding aside I really did enjoy our session, he is a great kid and went along with most of my ideas even though I know he would have rather been done after the first 20 minutes!!

These are some pretty darn cute kids! Every summer while my sister-in-law and kids are back we try to squeeze in a session. It is getting easier each year. This year I had a blast working with my nephew, the youngest, who would run from the camera last year to asking to have his picture taken this year!

Taylor- 2010 Senior

I traveled to Taylor's grandma's house for her senior session, there was so many cool places to shoot on the farm. There are fields on either side of her house, a barn, a couple out buildings, and the cool old orange pick-up that I wanted to hookup to the back of my van and haul home!

I had the pleasure of photographing this big guy when he was only a few days old and again for his 1st Birthday. Such a cute kid, constant jabbering and on the go go go!!
His mom made his awesome cake, much bigger than the ones I usually get and I bet it tasted better too! Mister A ate his fill and left plenty to share with his daddy!

He has the coolest blue eyes and if you click to enlarge the image you can actually see his dad, the sky and clouds reflected in them.

This adorable little guy almost got the best of us, he did not want to miss out on a minute of his first photo shoot so he decided to stay awake for the entire thing. It's a good thing his parents and I were patient because when he finally gave in he was out cold and we were able to get some really cute shots.

My friend and fellow shutterbug got married this weekend and I had the privilege of being the photographer. Since he enjoys photography so much and knows the importance of capturing these once in a lifetime events he allowed me as much time as possible to shoot. It would have been an awesome experience if it weren't for the sweltering heat and humidity, their wedding party were all good sports about it and we captured some great shots. I am just sharing one image for now, because I need to get caught up, but I'm sure there will be more to come!
